Joe Holderness/Wilderness is in the doghouse with Parliament after a “small diplomatic incident” and finds himself shipped off to the Siberia of spying better known as Finland. Once there he comes across both an easy means of making money and an old KGB “friend” who swiftly begins to provide some secrets from an unusual source. Joe is not however convinced that the wish to buy vodka is the real reason for his friend being in Finland and as Joe’s investigations build up steam he once again finds himself on the carpet in London before he can cause any more damage than he has already done.
Prepped for a possible deployment to Czechoslovakia he finds himself sent out in a hurry without official cover and living as a tractor salesman just as the Prague uprising begins. Soon he finds himself once again in harm’s way when he is met by his KGB friend once more and he finds himself trying to save another old friend in what he hopes will be his final mission.
An at times funny, at times surprising read full of well-formed characters with a story that keeps you hooked until the end.
