I like the writing style and the references to podcasts, messaging apps, and so on make it feel bang up to date. The idea of exploring the mixing of South Asian and Canadian heritage - exemplified by Hana's favourite dish, biryani poutrine - is intriguing. If I thought the rest of the book was likely to focus on cultural identity and the experiences of second generation immigrants then I might be tempted to read it. However the blurb suggests it's going to move into romcom territory. Personally, I'd like Stanley to turn out to be a woman, Mr Silver Shades (because Hana took an instant dislike to him and, well, what did Pride and Prejudice teach us?) or the bot he tries so hard to prove his not.
