A modern story about family ties, relationships, love and how our actions and words affect others. I liked how the cultural details were an integral part of the story; for instance the food eaten and snippets of language some of the characters use to express their thoughts.
The story is set in Hanaan Khan’s neighbourhood, a place where she works ( both in the family restaurant and at the local radio station) and where she meets up with friends that she has grown up with. We meet new family members and understand the difficulties her family face with their business especially when a competitive business arrives. Her life and ongoings throughout are an enjoyable journey for the reader as you feel a confidant in her thinking’s and actions - there are times when I wanted to be there too at either the Three Sisters restaurant, the ice cream parlour or savouring the cups of her aunt’s signature strong chai.
But life is complicated and not always rosey or what they seem to be ...
