One of the best things about this book, was the characters rather than the plot. The majority of people we came across in the story, were realistic, flawed and complex individuals. Hana was an unapologetically Muslim woman who was every bit as smart as she was honest and brave. I found her a strong choice as a protagonist because I really brought into her character and invested myself in her journey. I cared what happened to her and was excited to see what happened next.

The romance was also genuine and was very likeable. The characters stood up on their own and together they were well suited. Even the families were well written and served their own purpose in the story beyond being just side characters with no importance to the plot. They complimented Hanna as the main character as well as the primary relationship with Aydin which seemed authentic
