I wanted it to carry on...
I enjoyed this book so much that I did something I rarely do, I slowed down my reading to really savour the story. It lasted me a week as I dipped in and out of it, and bizarrely I enjoyed it all the more and was sad when I eventually finished.
Hana Khan, the titular character is so likeable, as is her whole family, who bring so much depth and interest to the story. I was rooting for her all the way through, as she was trying to find her place in the world.
On some levels this book is a fairly easy and light read, and could quite easily be classed as a rom-com. However, it also felt much more than this; the racial and religious tensions are never shied away from and the events that occur shed light on issues that I personally have no experience of.
This is basically a lovely book about family, community and belonging. And whilst there are bleak moments to be found, it ultimately speaks of hope and joy. Loved it!
