I really wanted to love this book. All the elements for it to be great were there. There was great representation - it felt so well integrated into the story and really added to the book throughout. The idea of the book similar to ‘You’ve got mail’ is really clever and if you love a haters to lovers romance this is right up your street. The characters were well developed and likeable and I found myself wanting to know their path. But even with all that it felt like there was something a bit missing.

The middle of this book didn’t ‘wow’ me and I wasn’t racing through to find out what was going to happen, I was just turning the page to more of the same. The top level to this book was great. The story is good and it is put across well, it just felt like that next level was missing. I love reads that have an underlying theme or sub context or even just more going on. I’d have loved to have seen more of her friends and the context to their interracial relationship.

I have to say that the Muslim rep was wonderful. Hana wasn’t controlled by her religion but practiced it openly in the book. I’m sure for many young women this book is something that they can relate to and appreciate. It really opened my eyes to how well representation can be done and other authors should take note. Well done Jalaluddin!
