An amusing tale of a Grump

Grump is an elderly man who goes to see his ailing wife in her care home frequently.

He muses on the downfalls on today's society and reminisces about the 'good old days' and how much better things were without the daily comforts we see as normal. Like electricity and running water.

He's distant from his children and is very focused on planning for after his death (and his own funeral).

Then Grump has a fall and is left much less agile than he was.

It's following his tumble that he comes to realise that not all things modern are downfalls in society.

Whilst this book was pleasant it missed a certain something for me. Maybe it was the cultural references that I didn't fully appreciate (due to my own lack of knowledge more than anything), or the translation meant the book didn't flow as well as it should.

There was some good dry humour in there though that I did enjoy, and Grump was a good character.

An ok read for me, but not brilliant.
