I desperately wanted to win this book after reading the initial taster chapters so was absolutely delighted when I did. Excitedly, I settled down to read, again enjoying those initial chapters.
However the more I read the more exhausting I found this authors style of writing particularly the dialogue, finding myself rereading parts to be sure they made sense. The 'grump's' dialogue is not punctuated and it is hard to know if he is talking, thinking or if it is the authors voice.
I felt this made it a difficult book, almost uncomfortable to read which disappointed me because the story idea is wonderful, as is the complex relationship between the characters and the grump is fantastically portrayed and actually really likeable. I have yet to finish the book and will return to it again at some point because I really would like to now how the plot develops.
