As it says on the cover, everyone knows a Grump.
The Grump is an eighty year old Finnish man who has spent his working life as a farmer and a builder. He has opinions about everything - politics, sport, food, news readers. He also knitted himself a hat when he was a youngster. He believes that the old days were the best and has no time for new technology or modern changes. His wife is in a care home with dementia and he is building them both coffins, writing his will and preparing for their deaths. This book is full of humour and bittersweet memories. All readers will enjoy this book as they recognise the Grump in people that they know and even themselves.
Some of the irony and humour of this book is inevitably lost in translation as there are many references to Finnish and Baltic people, places and events with which readers from other countries would not be familiar. Nevertheless, it is still well worth reading.
