What a great first chapter. I'm totally intrigued by this slightly creepy feeling mystery. Beth decides to look up an old friend who suddenly ended their friendship without explanation more than 12 years ago. She doesn't want to speak to her, but just wants to get a little peak at her new life. After waiting a short while outside her ex friends house, she gets lucky and spots her coming home with her now teenage children. As she watches from the car she realises that something is very off, her friend appears frightened and exhausted and as the children exit the car, Beth sees they haven't aged a day in the last 12 years, something is obviously very wrong.
