3.5 stars.

I found this book really hard to put down. The writing style had a great pace making me increasingly curious about what the characters were hiding. The plot felt slightly contrived towards the end but up until that point, I was heavily invested in the story. I thought that some of the character arcs were predictable, particularly within this genre, but I related to Beth and also to Zannah who I thought played a key part in the story. I felt the plot twists were a little too far fetched in places and this was a bit disappointing, having been so caught up in the story until the last quarter. It was still a good concept that was crafted well but it just didn't quite hit the mark with me. I'd still give 3.5 stars because I would never rate something on the twists alone - I can still appreciate the brilliant writing style, character developments, and edge-of-the-seat tension.
