I used to read a lot of Sophie Hannah books many years ago and always enjoyed them but hadn’t read any for a long time.

I saw that this book was going to be released and then listened to the Books of the Year podcast episode about it.

Beth is curious about the big house her former friends moved to and takes the opportunity to take a ‘wrong turn’ and have a nosey. She sees her old friend get out of her car and finds she’s very upset whilst on the phone. Beth finds herself wondering what the children will be like now they’ve grown up, but she’s shocked to see the children look the same as they did twelve years ago.
Beth is determined to get to the bottom of it and takes a Miss Marple approach with her husband being surprisingly tolerant of her antics.

The characters in this novel are well done and I found the majority of them likeable , bar a few. I particularly liked Zannah. Sophie Hannah has successfully written a teenage character that’s likeable and funny rather than plain irritating.

The plot is full of twists and turns! I thought I had it sussed a couple of times but no.

It’s very readable and didn’t take me long to finish. It’s well written and fast paced.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and I’m pleased that after not reading her books for a while Sophie Hannah hasn’t disappointed!
