I really enjoyed this book from the start - it was gripping, relatable and approachable. I felt the concept was really unique and that is what drew me to buy this book in the first place. It's almost a dystopian/science fiction/mystery concept but in a work of more ordinary contemporary fiction. I really enjoyed the genre blend and it's encouraged me to seek other novels of this type.

This book has lots of twists and turns, which kept me hooked throughout most of the book, but I feel one of the key twists in the end was disappointing as I felt there was potential for a much more interesting ending here. It went from a science fiction/mystery to a typical crime/contemporary novel ending and I thought there was real scope for producing a novel that centered around family life but possibly had an supernatural or scientific slant. I also did feel the archetypes of the antagonists were a bit extreme and somewhat too obvious and basic to believe.

Overall though, I did enjoy the novel and will be searching for the author's other works.
