I found this a bit of a slog.

I have never read a novel by Sophie Hannah before and was looking forward to reading this one based on what I had read in the First Impression. Sadly my enthusiasm for this novel was not sustained beyond the first 50 pages and I quite quickly stalled in reading this novel. Indeed after stopping and starting it six times I eventually forced myself to finish it and found the last 50 pages or so quite engrossing. It was just a shame that I lost interest in the intervening period to the extent that I really did not care what was happening to the characters amid the introduction of a side plot surrounding Zannah, Beth’s daughter that was just left hanging in the air to an extent. It was also a bit questionable given the early mention of finances and the need for Beth to work that she was able just to drop everything and go to America to solve the mystery around Flora and her family.
All in all unless you are a Sophie Hannah fan or have a lot of patience then I would give this book a miss.
