When I read the synopsis of this book I was really eager to read it - such an interesting sounding premise, why wouldn't a pair of children have grown?
So Beth gets curious about old friend Flora, who she hasn't seen for 12 years. When her son has a football match near Flora's last known address she can't resist the temptation to have a peek. She sees Flora with, what should be her teenage, children but they still look about 3 and 5 - the same age as when Beth last saw the family. What the dickens is going on?
Now I can understand anyone being curious but Beth immediately takes things to warp factor stalker level and I just don't buy it. I find it hard to believe that someone would be that invested in the current circumstances of a friend whom they've not seen for 12 years.
It is twisty and turny, there is a villain of the piece and you don't necessarily see what's coming but throughout it all I just couldn't get over how contrived and forced the story felt.
I daresay that many readers will love it but I ended up feeling disappointed (possibly because I had such high hopes in the first place)
