Loved every bit of this book.

The story was written from the viewpoint of a woman when she was a youngster, escaping her turbulent, abuse filled childhood in Ireland and how she escaped to London to get away from it all as a young adult.

As well as this, at the same time, there is an account of the present day written from the point of view of her daughter, who is now around 10 years old.

These were 2 very seperate world's for the main character, until her mother on her deathbed requests to see her.

As the two lives are told and then join, you see the similarities and contrasts in lifestyles and the common behaviours that have come from struggling to cope with family issues.

The woman takes her family back to Ireland very reluctantly, and in doing so discovers something which will make her current life a lot easier to live.

I started off loving the main character, but then hating her after her daughters account of her everyday life. It was only at the end that I really understood the complex reasons why she was the way she was and I have to say I shed a tear.

Excellent read. Very emotional.
