This is a difficult read as it is written about a sensitive topic but a topic that is very much at the forefront of news at the moment.

The book is beautifully written and is set in two different decades, the 80's and 90's ( more specifically 1997 ) and is narrated by both Josephine and her daughter Clare.

It is essentially a novel about relationships and how one dysfunctional relationship can impact every other relationship that follows, if things are left unresolved. Josephine's relationship with her parents and the lack of positive communication causes the wonderful relationship with her husband Michael and her children to deteriorate horribly and the impact is devastating and extremely sad to read about.

The lovely connection the children Clare and Thomas have with each other and the love and empathy Clare shows Thomas is wonderful.

I found the book difficult to read as it progressed but did enjoy it nonetheless.
