Though I haven't read the first in the series I don't think that will matter due to the different setting. The cover shows a period style of illustration with a good sense of movement. The action begins from the first page and some things are explained, not enough to be tedious or tiresome. I imagine this story will be exciting and interesting to children aged 8 to 12.
