The first thing you notice about this book is the dramatic cover, using the same style as the preceding book, I Spy. There's a lot going on and it illustrates some key characters/events yet somehow gives nothing away.
In this, second, book the action has moved away from Bletchley Park but our main character, Ned, will be familiar.
He and his mum have moved to Wales, after his mum got a new job curating/hiding paintings belonging to The National Gallery. Here they meet a prickly boy, Harri, and his mum together with Anni, who is currently staying under their care.
Not everyone is happy to have the English strangers in their village and when news of their secret operation, to hide paintings in the Welsh caves, is leaked they suddenly have to pull out all the stops to make sure that their secrets aren't uncovered.
The action moves from Wales to London, via a nervy train journey which tests friendships old and new. Can Ned, and his mates, protect his mum and the national art collection?
