Rhian Tracy perfectly combines adventure stories with great information about the second world war. The first book, I Spy, was set in Bletchley Park and Hide and Seek continues with Ned relocating to Wales with his mother who is involved with protecting the nation's art treasures by moving them for safe storage in the Welsh quarries. Unfortunately there appears to be someone leaking information which jeopardises the mission. Ned and his mother are living with Mrs Thomas while they're in Wales. Sadly, Mrs Thomas is losing her sight and has a guide dog called Kip who plays an important role as the story progresses. Mrs Thomas' son Harri resents having to share his home not just with Ned and his mother but with Anni, a Jewish refugee from Austria, as well. However as the adventure unfolds the three come together to ensure the project isn't sabotaged. Ned also meets up with Robyn his friend from I Spy and later with Mary who was also involved in the I Spy mystery. The author makes some of the lesser known aspects of the history of the second world war very accessible to a younger generation in a way that educates in a very accessible way. I hope there are more Bletchley Park mysteries to come. As these books are named after popular children's games I can't wait to find out what the title of the next one as well as looking forward to a great read.
