This is the second book in a series but can easily be read as a stand alone. The first group was about a group of friends living at Bletchley Park and this story continues with one of the group of friends. The book is written from the perspective of Ned and flows in a way that a similar age reader will read avidly, although I am not sure the cover design would appeal to this age group, as appropriate as it is to the tale it does make the book appear dated. Ned’s mother is involved in protecting the great artworks held in Great Britain and this involves her and Ned travelling across to Wales. They are billeted at a house in a village and Ned after a bit soon makes a new group of friends that are all very different coming from different circumstances. This book has contains interesting historical facts about how we worked to protect our historical assets from invading forces in a time of war.
