This is a modern day story of a child with learning difficulties getting involved with gangs and the horrific results of that. It's horribly sad as it is so true. I found the description of the absolute poverty the family are left in following the death of the husband really hard to read due to the trueness of it. I liked it but found it quite detail heavy and constantly alluding to/back to other thoughts/parts of the story but the strength of the story may win out. I think stories like this are much more difficult read due to the possible reality of them but this is also why it is good to read one every now and again to remind ourselves we are only a few steps away from homelessness.
