I really enjoyed reading this novel and I think that was because it was easy for me to emphasise with Angie, the protagonist, having been in similar situations myself.
The book is a page turner, it left me keen to keep reading at every opportunity. The characters were well created and easy to identify with.
The story had tragedy, suspense and a feel good ending but I think the author wrote it responsibly enough to show that in real life, not everyone gets a happy ending like Angie.
I found the book had just enough light and dark to not be too intense or too jolly! I like that it dealt with the issues of today's politics regarding those on benefits, those dealing with austerity, homelessness and how easily things can fall apart in today's fragile economy.
Angie was only able to get out of her dreadful situation because of good fortune and the kindness of others, which I guess was necessary for the story.
The only things I didn't like about the book was that the text was littered with pop culture references (Depop, Shpock etc) which I felt was the author's attempt at showing she was in touch with current culture, but will soon be out of date and irrelevant and will make the book become dated. I also don't think the cover fits with story, but I guess that's subjective.
It was well written and held my attention and an easy enjoyable page turner, without being too deep, dark and serious.
