Did not live up to expectation

From reading the cover of the book, and the premise of the story, I really looked forward to reading this book. It was a good book, which explored some delicate and interesting themes which entailed circumstances that could sadly happen to literally anyone. Some themes were triggering though, so if you have struggled with finances or homelessness or gang-lore, this may not be the book for you.
Sadly though, as good as a book it was I have to only give it only 3 stars as it did not live up to my expectation. The book cover states 'how far will a mother go to protect her family', so I expected some serious 'mumma-bear' situations when bad things arose, but really the mother did not actually do anything. Instead, things were handed to our main character, and it felt the conclusion was rushed to give this book a happy ending. It was a shame, as I found myself expecting more from the book than I got.
