Angie Watt's has a beautiful home, a loving husband, three children and the only dark spot is her eldest boy has fallen in with a bad crowd and drugs. When Liam (the eldest) goes to far her husband confronts him and dies at the hand of the gang. What follows and the bulk of the story is what happens to Angie and her family after Steve dies.

Ooft a practically blissful life turns tragic after her husbands death. Going from not having to worry about money to losing her security, struggling to make ends meet and becoming desperate. Her teenage daughter wants to help and finds herself in a dangerous situation. Her landlord has a vendetta and cares nothing for the families issues, he just wants his money.

It is a tale of absolute but for the grace of God go I, how things can turn in the blink of an eye. I thought initially this was going to be a more crime type story but actually it is family drama with a look at how a change in circumstances can pull the rug from under you. How a whole family can be affected by a loss, if only one decision has been different how vary different things could be. It is heartbreaking for the mother, Angie, to see how badly things get and how quick folk are to take advantage. That said there are also a lot of characters with heart and kindness in the book so it gives a wide range across the board of good/bad people. This was my first dance with this author, it won't be my last, 4/5 for me this time.
