After reading the first 30 pages of this book, I really wasn't looking forward to reading any more. A miserable book about drugs, murder, dysfunctional families and a protagonist, Angie Watts, who belongs in EastEnders.
However, I became addicted to the plot and loved the compassionate heroine, Angie, and the way she dealt with all the disasters and bad luck which afflicted her and her family.
I learned a lot about spiralling debt and inescapable poverty and what it must be like to be evicted from your home through no fault of your own. I shall certainly regard homeless people with more sympathy than I have in the past.
I have read several books by Susan Lewis now and have a great admiration for her. I'd now like to read her 2 memoirs - Just One More Day and One day at a Time.
