Interesting merging of chick lit and a modern day horror story of being working poor in Britain in the late 2010’s. The writer does not shy away from the realities of the state of poor Britain in the current era, and not everyone gets the fairytale ending. I read it in two sittings, could easily have read in one. Although micro breaks required as it covers the dire realities of gangs, sex work, human trafficking, poverty and how these people are often further harmed then helped by the systems in place.

Well written, you feel right in the story, if a little over detailed about irrelevant things at times (maybe to immerse you). It reminded me of reading a Cathy Glass novel with it's down to earth tone and realistic themes. It ends pretty predictable but then that's why you read chick lit right? With all the darkness in the book it is a bit of a relief to have a lighter ending. The writer doesn't abandon the realities the storyline highlights, pointing to others who are not so fortunate in the book with a pretty devastating ending for one endearing character.

I'd recommend this to anyone, it's easy reading in that it's immersive and flows but the themes are dark, gritty and true to life. They are things we should all think about.
