This book is deceptively easy to read. The words are simple but the message is powerful.
Shamiso is 15 years old and has returned to live in Zimbabwe from the UK following the death of her journalist, father. Shamiso's story manages to convey the plight of the middle class Zimbabweans who struggle to buy food, healthcare, housing and education because of the political corruption and astronomic inflation.
Shamiso has attitude and intelligence but is also a child struggling with grief and guilt as her friend, Tanyaradzwa, deals with her recurring cancer.
This is a short book which only took a couple of hours to read but the message about conditions in Zimbabwe prior to the death of Robert Mugabe and the author's hope for the future of her country will last in the reader's mind for a lot longer.
