First this is probably a good book for the right audience.
The language is easy to read and paints a good picture of a different country.
However, I got bored. I didn’t connect with the main characters and my knowledge of African history and recent politics isn’t good enough to understand th contextvof a journalist and distribution of farms. Other parts of the tale put me in mind if history lessons and Germany between the Wars. Initially I thought it would be a fish out of water school story but actually it focuses on a journey in a new country to understanding her father and why he left them.
Alongside this we get a subplot with a cancer patient and a glimpse of life with a minster family. Not for me but I can see the appeal for early teens.
