Hope Is Our Only Wing is a very heartfelt and emotional story regarding the life of a teenage girl Shamiso following the death of her father and that of another girl, Tanyaradzwa, who is facing her own demons as she battles a rare cancer.
Shamiso and her mother move to Zimbabwe from England, following the death of her father. Still grieving for her father and being taken away from her friends and all normality Shamiso’s character is portrayed as a extremely overwhelmed teenager who feels that life will never feel normal again. Her blatant disregard to authority and lack of willingness to attempt to move on and make new friends makes Shamiso a pretty interesting character. When she finally accepts that she needs a friend to help her through the situation she is in Tanyaradzwa and Shamiso strike up an intriguing friendship. The story of the girls friendship is full of emotion making this a very heartfelt read.
