This has all the hallmarks you'd expect of young adult fiction....friendship, fish out of water storyline, illness, death of a parent, struggles to be overcome in a poignant way, hidden secrets, good intentions gone awry....and it just didn't quite work for me.

The prose is quite simplistic, and while this is aimed at a far younger audience than me it felt like it doesn't do that demographic any justice by 'dumbing down'....the subject matter is very much aimed at mid to late teen, yet the language and style of writing seems at a much younger level to me.

I'm sure it will find an audience, not just for those struggling with similar issues to those in the book, which are universal, but also those wanting to discover more about Zimbabwes political situation.
