After really enjoying book one in this series, 'A Tapping at my Door' by David Jackson, I was really looking forward to reading 'Hope to Die' and returning to Liverpool with DS Nathan Cody. This book was not a disappointment.

It begins with a brutal murder outside a cathedral and soon Cody with his team are on the hunt for the hate fuelled perpetrator. This is a pacy, high adrenaline read and Cody once again skates on the edge of sanity and control with his personal life and his role within the team. There's more development with Cody's ex Megan Webley and their intriguing relationship and more of Cody following hunches and antagonising his superiors. All this adds drama and depth to the world of the novel into a dramatic climax. I think these books are great and I'm happy to recommend.

A clever, tense and well-written crime thriller read.
