Wow! I never considered transplantation as an interesting topic, or thought much about it at all, it having never been relevant to my life. However, I loved this book. It combines the history of transplant with descriptions of how transplants are actually carried out, and adds some real-life stories of donors and recipients. The author also talks candidly about his own experiences and feelings about his chosen profession - not only the triumphs, but also when things have gone very wrong, and how he attempts to cope with the feeling of guilt and despair that could become overwhelming at times.

I finished this book feeling much better educated than before I started it, and that this education had been a pleasure rather than a chore. Great book.
