As a medical student, I love to read around my field, and this book did not disappoint!

There is a considerable amount of medical jargon which may be difficult for those not in the field, so do bear that in mind if you are picking this up. I think this could have been done better personally, as many of the other medical autobiographies I have read have managed to keep everything in layman's terms.

That being said, it was a well written, detailed history of transplantation, following the author on his journey learning from the legacy of the great masters of modern medicine. The book expertly draws on a combination of personal surgical experience, patients' stories and their very human experiences and struggles going through the medical system.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and I definitely learned a lot about the subject. If you can manage to make your way through the medical technicalities there are some really interesting sections in this book and I think it would make anyone think twice about becoming a donor!
