I recently read "this is going to hurt: Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor" by adam kay so it was obvious that this was going to be an interesting and insightful book alongside that. this first look provides several insights into surgery and organ donation in the field of medicine, as well as the impact of transplantation. it also provides a moral angle and the difficult decisions that need to be made.
it is written in first person narrative in a way which crosses creative nonfiction and an account, and it has a moving voice, emphasising the pressure that they are under. it also explains medical terminology and concepts for those without the background.
overall this was a powerful first look. this was only the first look, but later on the book offers an insight into the future of organ transplantation, which would offer interesting moral lessons.
