I don’t usually go for non fiction but this is an exception!
I loved the extensive history of organ transplantation interspersed with hood own personal journey through med school and into the world of organ harvesting. There are also some amazing stories of particular patients that stand out in his memory like an alcoholic mother who burns through her new liver and the touch and go story of a young transplant patient who would go on to become a surgeon himself.
This book doesn’t shy away from the gritty and grim - it’s graphic in some places and reveals all the details that you’ve probably never considered. But it also highlights the beauty of organ transplants and the unimaginable miracle that is taking a organ from a dead or dying patient and saving another life.
It provides an insight into organ transplant that cannot be beaten, If you have any interest in history or medicine or even human psychology - I fully recommend this book
