In How Death Becomes Life Joshua Mezrich writes about his personal experiences of his medical career, particularly in transplant surgery. He also gives the readers an insight into the fascinating history of this specialism. There are a number of very moving accounts of cases he has been involved in and the reader will be amazed at the bravery of all those involved, the recipients, their families, the donors, both living and deceased and their families as well as the medical team. This can be an extremely emotional time for all of these people and the author writes with great sensitivity. In the acknowledgements the author writes that his aim is to make the story of transplant surgery accessible to all but, at times, the descriptions of the illnesses and resulting treatment is very technical however this does not detract from this book at all.
