Good scene setting but a little too quaint for me

Ok so this clearly isn't my sort of novel, however I did quite enjoy this first impression.
The author has quite quickly built up a homely rural vibe and setting in this first impression, I did feel as though I could visualise this old fashioned country butcher shop at the height of the christmas period.

All of the scene setting and description was really good and transported me into the setting of the 2 lead characters, however despite feeling slightly intrigued by what illness the book's 2nd protagonist is suffering from, I have read enough to know I probably don't care enough to actually give this book a go, seems a little too quaint and emotionally for my taste.

Lovely cover though! I presume/hope it's a picture of the forest of Dean that inspires the story setting.
