I really enjoyed the first 300 pages of How to Belong but felt let down by the ending.

There didn’t seem to be clear resolution to the unsettled lives of either of the two main characters, Tessa and Jo.

Tessa’s relationship with Marnie has broken up as a result of her undiagnosed condition which she doesn’t want to harm their unborn baby. Jo has left her unfulfilling career as a London barrister in order to return to Gloucestershire to run the family butchers business so that her parents can retire. Jo rents a room in Tessa’s home but neither woman feels that they belong in their new lives.
The book was well researched and the reader learns a lot from Tessa’s job as a farrier and Jo’s butchery business.
I feel rather let down now that I have finished the book. I wished it had continued a bit longer and provided a more definite resolution rather than a mere hint.
