PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: this is NOT an instruction manual, this is a fiction book! Do not be confused by this book’s title!

I was drawn to this book straight away by the title. When I'd got over the fact that it's not actually an instruction manual and is completely fictional, I quickly grew to love it. It's narrated by Kitty Collins, a social media influencer who tends to attract a lot of attention wherever she goes. Her voice is bold and this means the novel is full of (very) dark humour. I often found myself laughing at things Kitty said that really should not have been funny.

Kitty has a seemingly close group of friends and the author has done an amazing job of building the characters of Kitty and her friends, especially the women. They all have interesting background stories, and I think most readers will be able to recognise the "types" of friend from their own 20s friendship groups, even if they weren't lucky enough to hang out in fancy bars and clubs in Chelsea. I was intrigued by their lives, and there were several plots developing in the background which kept me asking questions.

How To Kill Men And Get Away With It does handle several dark themes, which means that despite the humour, there are some scenes that are particularly upsetting. The novel is very current though, so it's definitely worth looking at the darker subjects, and for me personally, this darker edge does not take away from what is overall a brilliant read.
