This book starts with a group of swimming friends from university meeting at a remote island for a memorial service for their friend Lissa who went missing while swimming. Lissa owned a hotel on the island with her partner but her body as never been recovered from the water after she drowned.

The book is told from the alternating viewpoints of Bronwyn and Georgie and is packed with twists and turns in them trying to solve what happened to their friend Lissa.

Whilst I enjoyed the basic premise of this story I didn't love what I viewed as a bit of a random story about a local legend of a sea serpent who takes people who want to be taken. The friends apparently see something like a sea serpent when they were swimming and I felt like this part of the book wasn't required and dragged the story on for longer than it needed to be.

I struggled to warm to any of the characters as they all seemed pretty messed up and considering the way they had all treated each other in the past I'm not sure why they were still friends.
