The first 3 chapters have me hooked and intrigued about the leading character Ria Taylor. There are so many questions I am asking myself already that I just need to keep reading to know the answers to!

Ria is a refuge worker for ‘Safe Me’ and already a powerful message has been given within the first two pages about ‘one in four’ – how one out of every 4 women will not survive the abuse they are suffering. I think it’s really clever to introduce such emotion so early on and it has immediately got me thinking. Ria is definitely an intriguing character with a colourful personality and caring nature. This is clear straight away from the relationship she has with Sheila one of the women who ‘Safe Me’ is helping. Ria has been a refuge worker for 12 years and loves her job. I have found myself wondering though what may have happened to her growing up and in her previous relationships as she has lied to her husband Danny in some way about this. I wonder if it may be linked to her wanting to become a refuge worker.

Ria and Danny are also struggling financially with bailiffs and debt collectors involved. Danny has gone to Dubai for 30 days for work meaning Ria is at home alone with their 2 children. Ria has indicated from the things she has said she doesn’t like to be alone. This coupled with the fact Ria has just been sent a video by someone, showing footage of her filmed from a distance with the message ‘I’m watching you’ makes for chilling reading. I cannot wait to find out who is behind this. Is it an ex-partner of a woman who the refuge is helping or linked to Ria’s comment about “what got me into trouble in the first place”? So many questions that I just cannot wait to learn the answers to!
