Good But Not My Style

The book seems to tick all the right boxes. Interesting topic, good cover, well written, good length and promising storyline. There were also a few gripping intense moments and some strong emotions. But for some reason I never got fully into it. My mind frequently wondered while I was reading and some parts on the plot were quite predictable. It definitely got more interesting towards the end but I feel it could have been a bit shorter and some of the author's attempts to blur the lines and keep up some form of 'mystery' just made things unnecessarily complicated and demanding. I will caveat the above, however, by saying that I wasn't in a great and focused state of mind while reading the book so this may, in all fairness, have had something to do with it. Either that or maybe the author's style just doesn't match my taste. It is also worth mentioning that the book tackles the subject of domestic abuse (both physical and psychological - or both) which is a very important and overlooked topic. From this context people like me who are lucky enough to have had limited exposure to this sort of thing would benefit from reading this book and increasing their awareness. Sadly this sort of thing is more prevalent than we think. Overall a good effort, I definitely wouldn't discourage anyone from reading it but maybe just not my style.
