The portrayal of domestic abuse was harrowing, and the use of it was powerful, but that’s as far as it went for me.
I expected a suspenseful, dramatic, eventful book but in terms of those attributes the story fell a bit flat. I was bored and found it difficult to get through.
This isn’t the kind of book I’d normally pick out for myself. I read suspense very rarely so maybe that’s why it fell short for me? Maybe my expectations are high because I read it so rarely and what I have read of that genre, I’ve been blown away by the suspense created.
I’m sure if this is a go-to genre for people, they’ll probably enjoy it! It’s definitely worth a try. But I think it’s just not for me unfortunately!
