Sorry, the word amused me and I was looking for an excuse to use it.

I found this First Impression to be strangely gripping. The scene setting is superb - although, I think it helps if you have seen Gangs Of New York as this helps fill in the scenery and the broiling tensions in New York of this time period. I vaguely remember reading the First Impression of the previous Justy Flanagan book and not being too impressed with it. Things have certainly changed with this installment - maybe it is because there is less military about it and more procedural.
