Richly detailed, fast-paced and a full-on explosive encounter!
I am enjoying historical crime fiction more and more, but having not seen Gangs of New York I did wonder if I might be out of my depth with this novel. Thankfully the FI is rich in detail and I could immediately envision the setting and atmosphere.
The story gets off to a cracking start and launches straight into the action which had me hooked within a few pages. The writing style has a non-stop vibrancy and it held my attention fully.
My only concern is that on the first glimpse at the FI there seems like there could be a sizeable cast of characters, all with family blood or grudges linking them. Herein lies the potential for confusion, but on first take the story looks to be a thrilling read! Very keen to give the novel a go and disappointed to have missed the first in the series.
