We begin this story following a young lady called Kerry O'toole, as she is walking along the dark streets of New York in 1803. During this evening she discovers a girl has been murdered, holding on to her last breath until Kerry finds her. Throughout the book we are trying to figure out who the murderer is and why they have killed this innocent young girl.

I didn't realise this book was part of a series until I looked into more of the authors books. In the previous book I believe something went on between Kerry and Marshall Justice Flanagan, you can feel the tension between them throughout the story.

The description of some of the scenes is beautiful and so vivid, you feel like you're actually there!

Some parts of this book are quite graphic, so please be warned.

The only part of this book that i struggled with was the language. However, there is a glossary at the back that can help you with this. (Again, I didn't know that was there until the end of the book and I was like 'huh' haha!)

This is a historical fiction and you can tell the author did his research.
