A great exciting book which painted a vivid picture of 1803 New York. What a rough place to live! I’m glad I wasn’t there!
I must however make reference to the language used which has long gone out of common use. Get a load of these—

And perhaps hundreds of others. These words really confused me as I prefer to understand what I’m reading! I thought of Googling them and decided there were so many it would take to long. So I struggled on pretending I knew what the sentence meant. Imagine my annoyance when I had finished the book and was flicking through the pages at the back and I found a glossary with them all listed. Why on earth didn’t the publisher put this list at the front or at least
tell us it was at the back? Come on Mr Macmillan get a grip.
Nonetheless I really enjoyed the book which kept moving throughout to keep my interest at a high level.
I’m interested in hearing more from this author.
