Although older than Grace Dent there are many, many episodes in Hungry that are not so much different from the time I was growing up in the sixties. So much of what the author writes is pure nostalgia, the foods that were popular at the time, groups like Brownies that hadn't changed for years. It's so good to be reminded of some of the great things that I'd forgotten about over the years but, sadly, as the author describes, it wasn't all fun and games and comfort food. Bullying was rampant in most schools at any time over the years and that hasn't changed but has become even worse with all the new ways of tormenting people. So much else has changed in the last twenty or thirty years that had remained much the same for generations, some good, some not so good. These days are fascinating to look back on although not many would want to relive them.
