Hungry is a delicious memoir by the food critic Grace Dent. Known for her column in The Guardian and appearances on Masterchef it would be easy to assume this was a snobby look at food but this is about Grace and growing up in a world far removed for snobbery and Michelin star restaurants. Grace shows that she has worked hard to achieve what she has and it takes years to be an overnight success. This is her memories of growing up in the seventies and eighties through to now. Memories of butterscotch Angel Delight and whoops bargain stickers in supermarkets. This will bring back so many memories for so many people. I laughed out loud it evoked so many memories. I also shed a tear when she talked of her family and especially her father. This is a memoir with so much depth and emotion. At the centre is family and food with all that the bargain aisle delivers. I loved that Grace didn't feel the need to fill the book with photos they would have taken away from her words. You don't have to be a fan of Grace Dent to read this book or even know who she is. This isn't about a celebrity it is about a normal person like you and me.
